15 Best Campgrounds near Bodega Bay

February 7, 2022 | More: Campgrounds

Bodega Bay is a village in Sonoma County, California, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of Bodega Harbor was 912, and as of the 2020 census, that number is expected to grow to over 2,500. The community lies along State Route 1 in Sonoma County’s Sonoma Valley, on the eastern side of the Bodega Harbor inlet, on the Pacific coast.

You’ll find the town about 20 minutes from several other popular Sonoma County towns, including Sebastopol and Guerneville. The towns have great outdoor activities, including hiking, kayaking, and fishing. For the history buff, the Russian river valley is home to some of the world’s greatest Pinot Noir growing appellations. The area around Bodega Bay is also a prime location for wine tasting.

Bodega Bay is just 70 miles from San Francisco, making it a quick, scenic drive along the coast. Highway-101 offers a scenic route along the coastline, but Highway-1 is much faster and windier. While Bodega Bay is a popular destination for tourists, it’s also a great base for touring the North Coast and wine country. You can explore the area by boat, car, or bicycle. Regardless of what you choose to do, Bodega Bay will provide you with plenty to see and do.

If you’re interested in bird watching, Bodega Bay is a great place to visit. Nearby Jenner and Sea Ranch, this quaint coastal town is a great spot for bird-watching. If you’re looking for a beach for a day or a weekend, you can even explore the beach on the opposite side of the peninsula. A half-mile trail will take you through lush woodlands and merge into the bodega bay shore.

Unlike other places in Sonoma County, Bodega Bay isn’t very crowded. The area is also known for its beautiful beaches. You can swim in the ocean during the summer months and enjoy the gorgeous views of the bay. Visiting Bodega Bay on a Friday or Saturday is a great idea for a romantic getaway with your significant other. You’ll be amazed by the beauty and fresh seafood.

While hiking the Bodega Bay coast, you’ll want to camp nearby. The Jetty campground is convenient and offers clean, hot showers. It is a good option if you’re camping with a family, because you can bring your dog to the beach for a walk. The campground has 99 campsites, and each site has fire rings and picnic tables. The campground is dog-friendly, but you’ll have to pay for water.

Don Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, a Spanish-born naval officer, was born in the area. He was on the hunt for Russians. He was a Spanish missionary who was looking for them. Fortunately, the city has many attractions. One of these is a small museum where you can learn about the local culture. There are several other historical sites in the area. The schoolhouse was used in the film “The Birds,” which is another notable movie.
