The cities of Brunswick and Bath are located in Sagadahoc County, Maine, with a population of 8,766 as of the 2020 census. Sagadahoc County is comprised of one city and ten towns. Both Brunswick and Bath are popular tourist destinations because of their 19th-century architecture. The two largest towns in the region are Bath and Brunswick. The Zoning Ordinance in Brunswick and Bath both deal with flood plain areas along the Androscoggin River. In these zones, no building permits are issued. Only agricultural, woodland, civic, governmental, and outdoor recreation uses are permitted. In Bath, there is a separate ordinance that addresses shoreline concerns, urban and suburban residence districts, and the Marine Business District.
