Chicago is the largest city in the U.S., located on Lake Michigan in Illinois. It is renowned for its bold architecture and skyline punctuated by the imposing John Hancock Center, the 1,451-ft. Willis Tower and the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower. The city is also famous for its museums. The Art Institute of the University of California, Davis, and the Field Museum of Natural History are worth visiting if you love Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works of art.

Two hours west of Chicago is Lowden State Park, a bluff that overlooks the Rock River. There, you’ll find the 50-foot wonder, “Black Hawk Statue.” It’s the second-tallest monolithic statue in the world. This park has eight primitive tent camping sites and four miles of hiking trails. For families, the park is perfect for picnics, fishing, and biking. It also has many outdoor activities to keep you active, including horseback riding, canoeing, and hiking.

If you’re looking for an outdoor experience, the Chicago area has plenty to offer. There are countless hiking and biking trails, as well as a unique Midwest experience along the shores of Lake Michigan. And if you’re looking for a fun family outing, check out the Leisure Lake Membership Resort in LaSalle. This permanent RV resort has a swimming pool, and eight primitive tent camping sites. While the amenities here aren’t as luxurious as the facilities at Leisure, they’re definitely worth the trip.

For a more family-friendly campground, consider the Yogi Bear resorts. Located an hour and a half west of the city, Yogi Bear resorts feature a wide range of activities for families. At their Illinois location, you’ll find a campground that offers fishing and golf, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a playground, and a rustic cabin. For a more active stay, consider a vacation to the suburbs of Chicago.
