Goshen is a village in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 5,454 at the 2010 census. The village is part of the greater Newburgh–Middletown metropolitan area. The town of Goshen has a rich history, and the many historic homes and buildings evoke a sense of place. For example, Jared Quattrini, a custom carpenter, lives in a three-bedroom Dutch colonial with his wife, Cassie. The couple has two daughters and loves going out to restaurants in town and attending the farmer’s market every week. For their free time, they enjoy camping, going to the local park, and eating out.

The town’s history dates back to the 17th century. Europeans first settled the area around the year 1714, but only in the last century did it become a thriving community. Its black soil makes it exceptionally fertile, which is why the town’s name translates to “black ground.” The soil in Goshen is filled with pyruvic acid, the ingredient responsible for the pungency of onions.

A monument in Goshen honors Civil War veterans. In addition, a memorial to veterans of the Vietnam and Gulf War stands nearby. Visitors can also play golf at the golf club.
