If you are looking for ways to vote in the upcoming election, consider living in Jackson, Mississippi. The city is home to a number of historical events. In the early 1960s, a sniper shot wounded Meredith, a protester, during a large rally. The incident caused widespread protests and led to the arrest and conviction of Meredith. Despite her injuries, she remained committed to the fight against racism and the injustices of segregation.

In the early 20th century, natural gas and oil fields in the vicinity of Jackson helped stimulate the city’s growth. Though initial efforts failed, speculators stepped in to explore the possibilities. While the city was not yet rich, the presence of oil and gas helped the area’s economy grow. In 1923, the city’s insane asylum granted Ella Render a lease of a portion of the land to conduct exploration. The next year, she discovered natural gas. The manship family was a prominent part of Jackson’s history, and now the Manship house is open to tours.

In Jackson, you can camp at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park. The park is 305 acres and is named for the explorer who established a trading post on the Pearl River. The park features a variety of outdoor activities like fishing in Mayes Lake and hiking trails. For the golf enthusiast, there is also a 9-hole course and driving range. Depending on your personal preferences, you may enjoy this park as a weekend getaway in the heart of the city.

Visitors to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) are sure to find something of interest here. Located within LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, this museum aims to educate visitors about the natural history of the state and the world around them. Visitors are treated to interactive habitats and can view nearly 200 species of aquatic life. During your visit, you can even take part in the Mississippi Blues Marathon. If you are looking for activities for the whole family, you can find a place that fits your style and needs.

One of Jackson’s oldest homes is the historic Boyd House. Built in 1853, it survived several Civil War fires and has since been renovated. It serves as the state headquarters of the Colonial Dames of America. If you are looking for a unique place to visit in Jackson, don’t forget to make time for a tour of the historic house. It’s worth the trip just for the history alone! And if you don’t like museums, there are plenty of places to visit in Jackson.

If you are visiting with kids, you might want to check out the Mississippi Children’s Museum. This museum is divided into six distinct areas. Each gallery explores a different topic, such as science, art, or the world at large. You can check out a giant map of Mississippi from the “Exploring Mississippi” exhibit. In the “Healthy Fun” area, kids can engage in fun health-related activities. Finally, a visit to the “Arts” section teaches them about personal expression and creativity.
