Located just five miles from Medford, Jacksonville is a hidden gem of Southern Oregon. It is home to significant cultural events, including a month-long musical festival. In the 1850s, Jacksonville was a center of commerce and boomed. Though it eventually met its bust, much of its character still remains. Here are a few things to do in Jacksonville. Note: Depending on when you visit, some businesses may be closed due to global health and safety issues.

When comparing Jacksonville to Medford, Oregon, you’ll notice that the average age is older in Jacksonville. This city also has more expensive housing, with housing costs 48.2% higher than in Medford. The average commute time is 5.7 minutes longer for residents of Jacksonville than it is in Medford. Other expenses that are important to consider when comparing Jacksonville and Medford include child care, transportation, taxes, and insurance premiums.

If you’re interested in the history of the area, Jacksonville and Medford are great choices for a visit. This region is home to several historic sites, including the old-world town of Jacksonville. Visitors will be able to see many of these buildings on walking or trolley tours. While you’re there, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the Applegate Valley, where lavender grows in abundance. The flowers bloom in mid-June and remain fragrant through the end of August. In addition to being a historic city, Jacksonville has a rich cultural history. Jacksonville had the first Chinatown in Oregon, founded by Chinese immigrants from San Francisco. In March 2004, evidence of a Chinatown was uncovered during road construction. When the archeologists discovered artifacts dating from the 1850s, they stopped construction until archeologists could rescue them. Broken Chinese bowls, handmade bottles, and opium paraphernalia were found in the area. The town was then incorporated into the Oregon Territory, but did not become a state until seven years later.

There are several things to do in Jacksonville and Medford. First of all, the two towns have a rich cultural history. There are several antique shops in town that have helped put the town on the map. There’s the Rim Village, a scenic area, and the historic Jackson County Courthouse. For art lovers, there’s the Art Presence Art Center on the historic courthouse grounds. Over 30 artists are featured at the Art Presence Art Center, which offers a diverse collection of works.

Crater Lake is a beautiful national park located just two hours away from Jacksonville. This natural lake, a remnant of Mount Mazama erupting about 7,000 years ago, is the deepest lake in the United States. The water is pure blue and is a top destination for tourists. You can visit Crater Lake if you have time to spend an afternoon visiting Oregon. You’ll be glad you did.
