15 Best Campgrounds near Pawleys Island South Carolina

June 3, 2022 | More: Campgrounds| Pawleys Island South Carolina

If you’re planning a trip to Pawleys Island, you should pack appropriately for the weather. Although the climate is warm, you should bring along some warmer clothing. While you’ll probably be accustomed to the warmer weather, you might want to have a few extra layers on hand when you get home. For instance, you’ll likely want to bring along an extra sweater. A hat and scarf are also a good idea, as it’s common to see chilly wind and rain while on vacation.

If you’re looking for a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life, you’ll love the peaceful atmosphere on Pawleys Island. Historic beach houses stand peacefully amid oleander and oak trees, and you can visit the local art gallery to purchase original works of art. Dolphin watching tours are also available at the town’s Crazy Sisters Marina. These tours combine a chance to explore the southern coastline with an opportunity to see dolphins in the wild. The town of Pawleys Island has a relaxed vibe, and visitors can participate in many popular activities like fishing and strolling the beach.

The island is home to a fine collection of antebellum homes. Many of these have been in the same family for generations. The Pawley House is a great example, which was built in the 1700s by a member of the Pawley family and moved in 1866. The Pelican Inn is a historic landmark built by successful rice planters. Some of these homes are now for sale. The history of the area is also fascinating and you can tour some of the oldest homes in town.

Kayaking is a fun way to explore the area around the islands. Kayaking offers an eco-friendly way to see wildlife without stepping onto a large boat. The town is also home to several kayak-only outfits, including Surf the Earth. The company offers morning and sunset tours, as well as stand-up paddleboard trips. Blue Wave Adventures and Crazy Sisters Marina also offer guided kayak tours. They are based in Murrells Inlet, and they offer 2 and 4-hour kayak tours.

Golfing is another great activity to keep you busy while on vacation in Pawleys Island. There are 10 golf courses within a five-mile radius. Some of the top-rated courses were built on the site of former rice plantations. The Caledonia Golf and Fish Club is one of the oldest and most beautiful courses in Pawleys Island. This historic property was bought by Robert Nesbit in 1797, and its name comes from the Latin word for Scotland. The course was converted into a golf course in 1994.

Cottages on Charleston Harbor offer a more home-like environment. Each cottage features two bedrooms and three bathrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, and a hammock. Many have heart pine floors, seasonal gas fireplaces, and cathedral ceilings. Some of the units even have private beach showers. Some of the cottages have a swimming pool, tennis courts, and even a pool. This is a great option for families.
