A historic fire bell tower, known as the Port Townsend Bell Tower, stands on the peak of the town. Built in the 1890s, the tower was used to summon volunteer firefighters to fight fires in the town. The Jefferson County Historical Society restored the tower in 2003. The Helena Bell Tower also served the same purpose in the late 19th century. The town also hosts a popular film festival, as well as a number of other events.
