15 Best Campgrounds near Telluride Colorado

July 26, 2022 | More: Campgrounds

There are many different things to do in Telluride, Colorado. Its quaint mountain town atmosphere is an idyllic setting for the perfect ski vacation. The town was once despised by miners, but has been rejuvenated by snow. In fact, it was Scandinavian skiers who first introduced skiing to Telluride. The town became a world-class ski resort in the years following. A ski vacation in Telluride is not complete without visiting the town’s historic mining district.

If you’re visiting Telluride Colorado with your RV, you can camp at one of the nearby campgrounds. You can camp here from May through October. There are some sites available for RVs up to 30 feet, but they don’t have electric hookups or dump stations. The campgrounds are well-maintained, but don’t expect to find fancy amenities here. But you can expect bathrooms and showers, as well as access to tennis courts and hiking trails. The town’s ambiance is complemented by the sweeping views it offers.

If you’re looking for a more rustic camp, you can try the Telluride Town Park Campground. There are 28 tent-camping sites here with picnic tables and fire rings. The cost is only 28 dollars per night, so it’s not as expensive as a hotel in the town. In addition to this, it is pet-friendly. You can also use the vault toilets here. And if you have a high-clearance vehicle, you can choose the Alta Lakes Campground, eight miles to the southeast. You’ll need water and electricity to run your campfire.

If you’re planning a ski trip to Telluride, don’t forget to check out the town’s rich history and culture. While it’s full of quaint old-west charm, the area has a rich, diverse culture and breathtaking natural beauty. Telluride was founded as a mining town in the 1870s, but the name had to change because of post office confusion. The town eventually became a popular destination, with 150 ski slopes.

The town’s history is filled with interesting stories. The “City of Lights” was once named for the castaway call that made the town so boisterous. Its early history also includes gold, as the Tomboy Mine was the world’s highest producer, putting up $360 million worth of gold in one year. The town has no chain restaurants or shops. But it is full of interesting things to see, do and experience.

The city is home to many campgrounds, including a dispersed camping area near Alta Lake. These sites provide a scenic high-alpine setting and fishing. Just be sure to have a high-clearance vehicle for the road to get there. The road is not well-maintained and requires a high-clearance vehicle. Be careful, though, as the road is one-lane, and there is a mining ghost town along the way. Camping is allowed around Alta Lakes, but it is not a recommended option for those with less-than-stellar vehicles.

The town of Telluride is a small historic community of about two thousand people. It is the most populated town in San Miguel County. The town began as a mining town in the late 1800s. Originally called Columbia, the town was renamed Telluride in 1887 after discovering the telluride gold found in other parts of the state. Despite being a small town, it has a rich history of mining and tourism.
