15 Best Campgrounds near Yosemite National Park is in California Sierra Nevada

July 28, 2022 | More: Campgrounds

If you have never visited the world’s most beautiful national park, you must be wondering what makes it so special. Yosemite is situated in the Sierra Nevada, a region in the Californian state of California. There are countless reasons to visit this spectacular park, but perhaps the most significant is that it is a world heritage site. Whether you are a tourist or an experienced climber, you are sure to come away with a life-changing experience.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains surround the park, and the California side is surrounded by beautiful beaches and high peaks. Many visitors prefer to camp at the beach, at Salt Point State Park or one of the other state parks. For those looking to have a more rustic experience, try camping at Letts Lake or Pillsbury Lake. Alternatively, stay in the Sierra Nevada foothills near the national park’s three family campgrounds.

If you are a backpacker, you can rent a cabin in Yosemite. The cost of such cabins is around $160 per night. The roads in Yosemite are steep and windy. While cell phones do work, they may not be dependable in the park, particularly in the summer. Cell service is also limited in areas outside of the valley. Regardless of your preferred method of transportation, remember to plan ahead and take proper precautions. Also, remember to research the safety issues, including American black bears.

Upper Pines Campground: The campground is the largest in Yosemite. It has 304 sites and is one of the most popular in Yosemite Valley. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table, and food locker. Tuolumne Meadows is a popular destination for families with pets and has amenities that make it convenient to camp here. While Upper Pines Campground has several facilities and is one of the largest, Lower Pines Campground has only 60 spots.

The Merced River runs upstream from Lakes McClure and McSwain. This river towers over the clear, cool waters, creating a natural transport hub for the region. Highway 140, the western entrance to Yosemite National Park, is located here. Highway 140 is also here, and is rich in recreational opportunities. Highway 140 is also located here, which makes it easy for visitors to reach Yosemite.

Camping in the park is a great way to get closer to the majestic natural beauty of the park. Lower Twin Lakes Campground is near multiple trails and boat rentals. Upper Twin Lake is famous for the California state record brown trout, weighing 26 pounds and 8 ounces. Twin Lakes Bridgeport also sits along the Upper Twin Lake. The campground also has flush toilets and drinking water.

There are a variety of campgrounds within the park. For RVs, Crane Flat RV Campground is one of the closest to the park. It offers 166 tent and RV campsites, including electric hookups. The campground also features cable TV and a private bathroom. If you’re traveling with a family or are traveling with a group, the Tamarack Flat Campground offers full hookups and cable TV.
