The Columbia River runs through Astoria, Oregon, a city on the Pacific Ocean. There are many places to see and do while visiting this city on the Columbia River. You can see all these places by taking the N/W train, which goes through Astoria. You can also catch a train in Manhattan that heads south and north.
For those who are looking for a little more fun, head over to the Columbian Theater, a small movie theater. While you’re here, you can also visit the Oregon Film Museum. The museum is located in the old Clatsop County Jail, and is dedicated to movies shot in Oregon. Its location is instantly recognizable from scenes in the film. Besides the movie theater, you can also visit Fort Stevens State Park, where you can swim and observe wildlife.
Astoria is home to the Columbia River Maritime Museum, which is a unique and interesting way to learn about the city’s seafaring history. Visitors can see maritime models, weapons, maps, and a Fresnel lens, which are all on display in this building. You can also learn about fishing, exploring, and military maneuvers in the nearby CoHo Charters, which is located a few miles from Astoria.
The area is also home to the original customs office of the United States. The customs office is the oldest west of the Rockies, and is located at the north end of 31st Street. Astoria is also home to the town’s oldest shoe store, Gimre’s on 14th St., and the Goonies House.
