January 20, 2022 | More: Things to Do

The state capital of Texas, Austin is bordered by the Hill Country and is an inland city. The University of Houston has a flagship campus in Austin, and the city is known for its live music scene. Many people enjoy hiking, biking, and swimming in the city’s many parks and lakes. The Circuit of the Americas has hosted several United States Grand Prix races. Whether you’re a music lover or a sports fan, there’s something to do in the Austin area.

One of the reasons to move to Austin is the low cost of living. The city has no personal income tax, and housing costs are cheaper compared to the coasts. The Economic Policy Institute’s family budget calculator takes into account housing, food, transportation, health care, and entertainment. In contrast, San Francisco is the most expensive city in the U.S., and housing options in the area can cost tens of thousands of dollars more. However, the low cost of living and low taxes in Austin make it an excellent choice for a new career or a fresh start.

If you’re into nature and outdoor activities, the area around Lady Bird Lake is a wonderful place to explore. Motorized boats are not allowed on Lady Bird Lake, so you can rent a kayak or canoe. You can also learn how to paddle a kayak, paddleboard, or paddleboat at the Rowing Dock. Barton Creek is a popular spot for paddling. A must-see for history buffs, the Umlauf House is located near the Texas State Capitol Building.

The art scene in Austin is diverse and vibrant. The “I Love You So Much” mural is one of the most popular photo locations, and the “Hi, How Are You?” mural is another popular spot. And if you’re into postcards, the Roadhouse Relics has some of the best. A good way to experience the culture in the city is to read a pocket-sized guidebook about Austin. You’ll also find the city’s famous events such as SXSW, which once was strictly a music festival has expanded to become a wildly diverse event that caters to a wide variety of interests.

The city’s history is rich with museums. The Blanton Museum of Art is one of the largest university art museums in the country, with over 20,000 pieces in permanent exhibition. The museum also hosts a variety of special events that can make it the perfect place for a date night. If you’re a music lover, you’ll want to spend time at the museum. If your love is a lover of the arts, a trip to the Blanton Museum is an ideal place to take her.

While visiting Austin, don’t forget to check out the city’s music scene. The city is renowned for its food trucks, so be sure to try a double cheeseburger while you’re there. For more traditional cuisine, visit The Picnic, which features picnic tables and several food trucks. While you’re in the area, consider stopping by the acclaimed Waterloo Records, where you’ll find a vast vinyl collection of local bands and artists.
