15 Best things to Do in Fort Morgan Alabama

March 21, 2022 | More: Fort Morgan Alabama| Things to Do

Fort Morgan is an historic masonry pentagonal bastion fort located on Mobile Bay in Alabama. It was named for Revolutionary War hero Daniel Morgan and was built on the site of Fort Bowyer, an earthen stockade fortification. The fort was involved in the last land battles of the War of 1812. The fort was destroyed in the Civil War, but was rebuilt on its original site. Today, the fort serves as a tourist destination.

Fort Morgan offers plenty of outdoor activities, including fishing and boating. There are also many public beaches in the area. These beaches are open to the public and allow people to enjoy the water without worrying about cell signals. However, make sure that you bring your ear buds if you’re planning to spend the day on the beach, as the cell signals can be spotty. The local beach is the perfect place to get away from it all and unwind after a long day on the water.

While in Fort Morgan, you can dine at Tacky Jack’s, a popular waterfront restaurant with live karaoke on Thursdays and Saturdays. You can also visit the Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, which is a huge state park with miles of walking trails, a pier and a beach. If you have a boat, this is a great place to go fishing! The marina is a must-see for those visiting the area.

The grounds of Fort Morgan are expansive and well maintained. Visitors can walk the grounds on a self-guided tour. For a more hands-on experience, try to visit the museum. There are many exhibits, including the Covid-19 exhibition, and it’s free to active military members. The museum is open daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and New Year’s Day. There is also a large historical marker located on the site of the fort.

The Fort Morgan State Park is a popular destination for families. The area offers shopping and golfing opportunities. There are many things to do with your family, including the beach. The park also offers free parking, allowing you to enjoy your vacation without worrying about getting lost. The city is also known for its historical sites and buildings. The old fort has been home to many famous characters over the years. This fort is an excellent location for visitors who are interested in history.

For birdwatchers, Fort Morgan is home to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, which is a globally important bird habitat on the migration routes of Monarch Butterflies and Hummingbirds. The Hummer Bird Study Group operates a banding station here for two weeks in the spring, and tens of thousands of migrating birds are banded at the banding station. This is a great opportunity to watch beautiful birds.
