A city that lies on historic Route 66, Gallup is one of the best places to go in New Mexico. Located near Red Rock Park, it is a great place to visit if you have ever longed to see Anasazi artifacts. A museum dedicated to this heritage showcases pottery, silver, and other relics. You can also visit the Gallup Cultural Center for Native American crafts. The Rex Museum focuses on the area’s history.

The cultural center in Gallup has a collection of local artifacts and displays. The Southwest Indian Foundation manages the center and it is located near the historic Santa Fe Depot. There are exhibits that feature local crafts and the history of the area. It is also a great place to visit during major events and special occasions. While you’re in Gallup, be sure to visit one of the historic churches and take in the sights.

The historical city of Old West culture can be explored in the town of Gallup. Several century-old buildings were once speakeasies. There are numerous museums and shops that offer authentic Native American crafts. The town is also a center for Southwest Native American tribes and crafts. It is a great place to visit if you are interested in learning about their culture. The Rex Museum will teach you about the history of the area.

There are 14 free and affordable things to do in Gallup. Sightseeing in Gallup includes visiting theaters, bowling, and art galleries. You can even visit Red Rock Park for a unique view of the area. At night, you can enjoy a show at one of the local theaters. For outdoor activities, you can take a scenic flight in a hot air balloon. The scenic flights are available throughout the year.

The city is home to more than 1,000 Navajo artists and craftspeople. You can find all types of jewelry, clothing, and other pieces of Native American art in the town. Gallup is also known as the Indian Jewelry Capital of the World, with over 100 trading posts and stores selling their wares. The city’s largest retailers include City Electric Shoe Shop, Mentmore Rock Climbing Area, and a variety of Native American crafts.

You’ll find the pre-1937 alignment of the New Mexico Turnpike about 160 miles from Santa Fe and 224 miles from Albuquerque. It meets the regular route in Correo, but you’ll be in Mountain Time. No big cities lie along the route today, so this trip is ideal for travelers who want to see some of the state’s attractions and enjoy the local cuisine. You can even make reservations ahead of time and book a hotel room.

The route between Gallup and Santa Fe is known as the Mother Road. During the original alignment of Route 66, Santa Fe passed through downtown in the vicinity of the LaFonda on the Plaza Hotel. From Santa Fe, the road was rerouted westward to the city of Albuquerque. It then followed the Old Santa Fe Trail and passed the Loretto Chapel and the San Miguel Mission. You’ll also find the Barelas-South Fourth Street Historic District.
