15 Best things to Do in Monterey Bay California

May 27, 2022 | More: Monterey Bay California| Things to Do

If you’re planning to visit Monterey, California, you’ll want to spend some time looking at its history. You’ll find plenty of examples of this past in Monterey’s downtown, where workers once crowded walkways to move industrial equipment and cans of sardines up and down the California coast. The area is also home to murals, small, well-preserved homes, and interesting historic landmarks.

There are several different types of lodging available in Monterey, so you’ll want to figure out what kind of vacation you’re after. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, consider booking a hotel along the beach, while families can rent a cozy house in the hills. AirBNBs are also a great option, and there are several of them in Monterey. No matter what your needs are, you’ll find something to suit your style and budget.

Salinas is home to the National Steinbeck Center. The National Steinbeck Center features an impressive collection of Steinbeck memorabilia. You’ll also find a multi-sensory exhibition about Steinbeck’s life, which has been featured in a book by John Steinbeck. While you’re in Monterey, you can also take in the town’s history by visiting the John Steinbeck House. Once you’ve experienced Monterey, make sure to visit Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, a famous Italian chocolatier.

You can also visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world, located in a former sardine cannery. Dedicated to marine conservation and research, the aquarium is a great place to see thousands of marine animals. In addition to the aquarium’s 35 exhibits, visitors can see divers feeding stingrays and penguins. If you want to learn more about the animals that live in Monterey Bay, you can attend a guided tour at one of the local museums.

Besides the history of the area, there are other great places to visit in Monterey. The Larkin House, which was built in 1835, is a national and California landmark. The building has been the site of several important events in Monterey’s history. Moreover, it’s home to the first European settlers, as well as the first settlement of Spanish colonists in the early 17th century. This is a wonderful place to see and experience the city’s colorful history.

Old Fisherman’s Wharf is another place worth visiting. This wharf, which was built for shipping goods and passengers, was once the hub of the whaling industry. It was here that Chinese and Japanese fishermen came to collect abalone and salmon, and the Italians started a sardine industry. These were both major industries at the time and were responsible for the city’s development. This is why many people from all over the world flock to Monterey.

Aside from the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, the city is a charming destination for a weekend or day trip. You can visit the bustling 17-Mile Drive, home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, or explore some of the attractions along the 17-Mile Drive. You can also spend time at Point Lobos or the Asilomar State Beach. These are all beautiful places worth visiting while in Monterey.
