Thermopolis is the county seat and largest town in Hot Springs County, Wyoming. The population of the town was 2,725 as of the 2020 census. In the last decade, the town has experienced rapid growth. In fact, there are more than 70 restaurants in the town. There are many outdoor activities available to tourists and locals alike. However, the most popular attractions are the hot springs. Whether you are a nature lover or a wildlife enthusiast, there is something for everyone in Thermopolis.

The mineralized hot springs of Thermopolis, Wyoming are the largest in the world. The springs have created a terrace of travertine, similar to Mammoth Hot Springs in north Yellowstone. You can swim in one of these springs or visit the surrounding sulfurous vents and sinkholes. You may be able to see bison grazing in the wild. Thermopolis Wyoming is located just off the US 20 highway.

The town of Thermopolis is located near the Owl Creek Mountains. It is an excellent family side trip. The area is home to several natural hot springs, as well as hiking and biking trails. The town is conveniently located near Highways 20 and 120. It is also close to the northern end of Wind River Canyon. There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation in Thermopolis. Take your kids on a fishing trip to nearby Big Horn River and explore its pristine hot springs.

Thermopolis’ main street has several dining options, including pubs and family restaurants. Along the street, there is a cowboy statue, which was designed to fit 16 horses across the road. The downtown area of Thermopolis has some funky and interesting sights to offer visitors. You can also take a hike in the nearby mountains or fish in the rivers. If you plan on staying overnight in Thermopolis, make sure to bring your camera.

Thermopolis, Wyoming has a climate that is unique. As part of the Big Horn Basin, the town is slightly cooler and less windy than the surrounding area. In January, the temperature is a cool 22 degrees, and in July, it reaches a high of 73 degrees. Thermopolis enjoys 320 days of sun a year, which is attributed to sulfur found underground.

For dinosaur fans, you must visit the Wyoming Dinosaur Center in Thermopolis. Featuring over 10,000 bones, this museum is one of the best dinosaur museums in the country. It is also home to the only Archaeopteryx on display in North America. There are also many nearby dig sites for viewing dinosaur bones. It is a unique opportunity to see how dinosaurs lived and died, and experience the excitement of discovering fossils for yourself.

Thermopolis is a great place to visit for the first time or if you live in the area. With so many small towns, it’s hard to find somewhere you don’t like. But if you’re lucky, you can visit these charming towns in the region. When visiting Thermopolis, you can meet Nate and MaeCile Brown, who live just 40 miles outside of town.
