Whether you’re visiting for business or pleasure, there’s plenty to do in Thomasville. There’s plenty of unique dining experiences to choose from, including award-winning small-batch Georgia craft beer at the Hubs and Hops Tap Room. You can also explore the area by bike. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a group, a well-planned itinerary will ensure you have a good time in this quaint Georgia town.

Visit the Thomasville History Center, located adjacent to the Lapham-Patterson House, to learn about the history of the town. Founded in the 1950s, the History Center has over a dozen thousand items and displays. Many of these items are original creations by Maddie Hart, Amy’s daughter. You can get the chance to hear the history of this area by attending one of their educational workshops. More than 125,000 photographs and documents are displayed at the Thomasville History Center.

Among the many attractions in Thomasville, the Jack Hadley Black History Museum is an excellent place to start. Here, you’ll learn about the rich Black history of Thomasville and its residents. You’ll see pieces of the area’s history – from slavery to the buffalo soldiers. You’ll learn about the city’s rich history and how these pioneers shaped the world that we live in today. After learning about these historical facts, you’ll feel inspired to start your own legacy of strong leadership.

For those who want to explore nature, The Hike Inn is the perfect place to start your adventure. The inn’s eco-lodge buildings cascade down a mountainside and are on stilts. The guest rooms are heated by a small radiant heater and blankets. The rainwater collected in cisterns is used to irrigate the vegetable garden. Visitors can even learn about the resident worms, which compost table scraps for use in the inn’s vegetable garden.

If you’re interested in history, you can check out the Lapham-Patterson House, a large flaxen-hued home from the 1880s. Lapham loved the area’s mild climate and fresh air. There are many intriguing features in Lapham’s home, including hidden compartments, a cantilevered balcony, and 50-foot-high, intricately-carved wooden floor panels.

For books, the city has many shops that can meet your needs. In Thomasville, there are two unique bookstores: The Bookshelf and SouthLife Supply. The former features fine art prints and originals, while the latter offers an extensive selection of books. The latter also features a cute children’s section and a friendly staff. In addition to these two locations, the town is home to many unique boutiques that feature interesting and beautiful merchandise.

For water lovers, the area is home to the state’s largest sand swimming beach. Visitors can enjoy water sports such as canoeing and kayaking, and can even find a sand beach for a swim. Nearby wildlife management areas provide duck hunting. While in Thomasville, don’t miss the chance to check out some of the area’s wildlife. You can also enjoy a stroll through the park’s nature trail and take in the thriving native wildlife.
