The East River Valley was once used by Ute Native Americans as a summer residence. When Caucasians first started exploring the valley, they were quickly driven out by the locals. The first Caucasians to explore the valley were beaver trappers, followed by surveyors and eventually Captain John Gunnison. The river was used by the Native Americans to create a dam for the lake. Today, the area is still a popular destination for tourists and locals.

When the weather is good, the town’s many activities are worth exploring. There’s hiking, mountain biking, and other activities, as well as concerts and art shows.
