April 19, 2022 | More: Franconia Notch New Hampshire| Souvenirs

The mountain pass of Franconia Notch is a major feature of the White Mountains. Mount Lafayette and Cannon Mountain are the most prominent features of the pass. The Notch is located within Franconia Notch State Park and is traversed by the Franconia Notch Parkway. The pass is a scenic drive and a must see for anyone who loves the outdoors. However, before planning your trip, make sure to check out our tips below.

Whether you are looking for a great hike or a relaxing weekend getaway, you are sure to find something to please your senses. The Flume Gorge is a natural gorge with walls of granite that are 12 to 20 feet wide. A 2-mile loop takes you through this natural wonder, where you can marvel at cascading waterfalls, glacial pools, and massive boulders. While hiking or biking in Franconia Notch, be aware that some attractions are closed temporarily or may require advance reservations.

The Notch is an example of a typical northern Appalachian glaciated valley. It has geological features from pre-glacial times to post-glacial times. Despite being a state park, there are many tourist facilities and many features are easily accessible. Its unique terrain provides a unique view of different geomorphic regimes. A visit to Franconia Notch is an enjoyable and educational experience.

The area is home to some of the most scenic views in the White Mountains, and the picturesque scenery that surrounds it make it an unbeatable vacation destination. While hiking in Franconia Notch, remember to leave no trace. There are trash bins at some popular hiking spots and a collection point nearby for discarded items. While this may seem like a hassle for some, it’s worth the effort to make the experience as memorable as possible.

The State of NH bought Franconia Notch in 1928, and in 1988, it became a state park. The original purpose was to provide a memorial to veterans of New Hampshire and other allied states. The state of New Hampshire worked with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests to buy the land, and the New Hampshire Federation of Women’s Clubs was heavily involved in the campaign. This was a major achievement for the park, and it will always remain a treasure.

Hikers who wish to take a hike in the area will be happy to hear that the AMC hut is located just a short drive from the town. From there, they can choose between two popular trails – the Cannon Mountain and Lonesome Lake hike. The Cannon Mountain and Lonesome Lake hikes, each offering stunning views of the White Mountains. In addition, Mount Pemigewasset is a 3.7-mile hike that takes you through the woods and includes switchbacks.

If you’re looking for a more cultural experience, visit the Old Man of the Mountain. This famous rock formation was discovered in 1805 and has been the official state symbol of New Hampshire for over a century. The Old Man of the Mountain was known as “The Great Stone Face” and “The Profile.” The Old Man was the centerpiece of Franconia Notch for almost 200 years, until it collapsed on May 3, 2003.
