Front Royal is also known for the Shenandoah River. In 1999, it was named the “Canoe Capital of Virginia.” It is navigable even for first-timers, and there are exciting stretches. Smallmouth bass fishing is also plentiful. Whether you’re seeking a great day trip, or a relaxing retreat, Front Royal has something for everyone. It’s a fantastic destination for a family vacation.

Before being incorporated as a city, Front Royal was known as “LeHewtown.” However, by the late 1790s, the town was nicknamed “Helltown,” thanks to the large number of livestock wranglers and riverboatmen who came to the town in search of alcohol. Avtex Fibers Superfund Site is currently being remedied and is expected to eventually house an eco-friendly office park, thirty acres of soccer fields, and 240 acres of conservancy park along the Shenandoah River.

Visitors to Front Royal will enjoy the local attractions, including Skyline Caverns. There are guided tours year-round at Skyline Caverns, which are the northern entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. You’ll also be able to explore the town’s past, including the American Civil War. The area is also known as “Canoe Capital of Virginia.” If you’re looking for a fun day out on the water, you’ll have no trouble finding a canoe rental here.

If you’re looking for great restaurants in Front Royal, look no further than Bushel Pub. A classic restaurant in the area, this restaurant has been in operation for more than 60 years. It serves a variety of local favorites such as apple butter donuts, which are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. In addition to local favorites like Apple House, you’ll be able to find Virginia-made crafts and hams and jellies.

Residents of Front Royal are predominantly white, with a percentage of 9.1% of people being black or other minority. The median household income is $51,871 per square mile. There are 10,881 registered voters in Front Royal. The median age is 43 years old, making this town’s population a mixed mix of race and gender. One in three Front Royal residents has a bachelor’s degree, while 16.5% are under the age of 18.
