May 6, 2022 | More: Las Vegas| Souvenirs

The early years of Las Vegas were largely dependent on the nearby aquifer, and pumping water from the aquifer resulted in a large drop in water levels and ground subsidence over a large area of the valley. As the population has grown in the region, so has the use of the aquifer, which stores water from the lake during periods of high demand. Since the 1970s, the population of the greater metropolitan area has increased rapidly, and aquifers were used as a reservoir during times of high and low demand.

In 2005, developers discovered that there was a demand for luxury condominiums. By the year 2008, over 100 of these buildings were in various stages of development. The construction industry experienced a downturn in 2008 because of the credit crunch. This is why a number of hotels and condominiums were shut down.

In the winter, temperatures tend to hover around 60 degrees. Winters can be very cold, but rarely result in measurable snowfall.
