15 Classic Souvenirs from Lewes Delaware

May 6, 2022 | More: Lewes Delaware| Souvenirs

Lewes Delaware is an incorporated city in eastern Sussex County. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 2,747. Lewes is one of the principal cities of Delaware’s rapidly-growing Cape Region. It is located on Delaware Bay. Located on a peninsula, Lewes is one of the most visited and most scenic places in Delaware. If you are planning to visit the town, here are a few tips that will help you get around the city.

First and foremost, the town was founded as a whaling and fishing port. Before settlers could begin their whaling business, they insulted locals, burned their fort, and killed newcomers. The city’s population eventually grew to nearly 5,000. However, before the whaling industry began, Lewes had a booming fishing industry. Those settlers who were scoffing at the locals retaliated by killing them and setting fire to the fort.

Lewes is a small city in eastern Sussex County, located at the mouth of the Delaware Bay. The city is protected by the Delaware Breakwater, which was built between 1828 and 1835. Lewes is the first white settlement on the Delaware River and is named after Lewes, Sussex, England. It has a rich history as a seafaring community and was bombarded by the British during the War of 1812. It is a resort city that is known for saltwater fishing.

Another advantage to purchasing real estate in Lewes, Delaware is that it’s located on Cape Henlopen, a peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay. It’s surrounded by the natural beauty of the area, and there’s a rich history of Dutch settlers in this town. This small town, founded in 1631, offers an interesting historic district, museums, and special tours. In addition to being an important part of Delaware’s maritime heritage, Lewes is home to a number of museums, historic buildings, and cozy accommodations. It’s a lovely place to spend your vacation and welcomes visitors!

For a fun day out with the family, don’t miss the Pirates of Lewes. This unique attraction will have you sailing on a pirate ship and getting soaked in water battles. While on the water, there will be treasure hunts, pirate sing-alongs, and even water fights. All of this is done by staff members dressed up as pirates, and you can wear pirate-themed attire if you’d like.
