As for nightlife, there aren’t many options for a party on the island, but the Islander Waterfront Restaurant is often packed. Besides enjoying the view of the ocean from your dining table, you can also sample the local cuisine, including seafood, fish and chips.
The economy of Lopez Island was based on fishing, farming and woodcuttering. Other jobs included postman, kelp fertilizer plant worker, teacher, and storekeeper. As the island population increased, the number of jobs on the island decreased, with 750 people on the island in the 1920 census and 575 on the 1930 census. Early residents were mainly farmers and fisherman, but new occupations appeared as the population grew. The 2010 census recorded a population of 2,383 residents, with a total of 2,410 housing units. This means that nearly half of the island’s residents are year-round residents.
