15 Classic Souvenirs from The Kennebunks Maine

July 18, 2022 | More: Souvenirs| The Kennebunks Maine

The town of Kennebunk is located in York County, Maine. According to the 2020 census, the town’s population is 11,536. You can find everything you need to know about this charming town right here. If you are considering a vacation to Maine, there are a few things you should know before heading out to the Kennebunks. Listed below are some of the most popular things to do in the area.

There is something to celebrate in the town during any season. Visitors can enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through Port. There are also candlelight dinners and Jacuzzis available. There are even plaques honoring local organizations and clubs. The town also hosts the largest seaside holiday celebration. For the holidays, the town decks itself out with pine boughs and other holiday decorations. Carolers ring out through the town, there is a tree lighting ceremony, hot cider is served and Santa makes an appearance on a lobster boat.

The beaches are another must-see. Mother’s Beach is a popular destination for young families. Middle Beach has some spectacular views of the Atlantic. Gooches Beach, often known as the “Kennebunk Beach,” is another beautiful stretch of sand that has lifeguards in season. In summer, you can also watch surfers from the shore. Goose Rocks Beach is another popular spot. It has three miles of smooth sand.

There are a variety of restaurants and indie shops to explore. Indie stores such as Daytrip Society and Home Ingredients sell funky hostess gifts. If you’re looking for a delicious lunch or dinner, the town has a wide array of options. You can even try out New England’s only five-star restaurant, White Barn Inn. For dinner, you can try out one of the local seafood shacks, the clam shack, or a seafood shack. If you are looking for a place to grab a meal, you’ll be very happy with a variety of waterfront restaurants.

There are many ways to stay in the town of Kennebunks. The White Barn Inn is a classic Kennebunk lodging that offers a chef’s tasting menu. Or, you can opt to stay in one of the 16 Cottages at Cabot Cove, furnished by local interior designers. All of these options are priced reasonably and make for an excellent holiday. And if you’re a foodie, the Old Fort Inn has an art gallery on the premises.

The Atlantic Shore Line electric trolley line began operating in the area in the early 1900s, providing transportation to the towns in York County. In 1907, the line carried nearly five million passengers. Though the line eventually ceased operating, it remains a part of Kennebunk’s history. The Perkins gristmill is one of the ruins that survived the war. The town is home to many historic sites, including a group of Maine trolleys.

During the American Revolution, the local people sent delegates and ammunition to the colonies. In 1782, a British ship with 18 guns attacked a small group of residents on Goat Island. The British lost 17 men, including Lieutenant James Burnham, of Arundel. In 1820, when Maine declared independence from Massachusetts, the town was renamed as Kennebunkport and Arundel. Its rich history is well-documented.
