When you are looking for a place to retire in Trinidad, Colorado, you have come to the right place. The community has an abundance of history and charm. The town was founded in 1862 after coal was discovered in the area. It was incorporated in 1876 and was a thriving town by the turn of the 20th century. In the late 20th century, Trinidad became known as the “Sex Change Capital of the World” as a doctor, Dr. Stanley Biber, performed four sex change operations a day in the area. You will find the Trinidad History Museum here.

For those who prefer to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry for breakfast, you’ll find a wide range of choices at Perkatory Coffee House on East Main Street. Perkatory Coffee House has been described as cool and quirky, and offers a full selection of hot and cold drinks, including nitro brew, tea, juice, and baked goods. If you’re hungry, don’t miss Rino’s Italian Restaurant and Steak House, a beloved landmark of Trinidad.

The small town of Trinidad, Colorado has a history of becoming the sex change capital of the United States. While the clinic that put Trinidad on the map moved out of town many years ago, the community remained. But preconceptions die hard, and in Trinidad, the town was even featured in an episode of South Park. There’s no shortage of interesting facts about the town and its history. The community is also dog-friendly, with many restaurants offering hearty bar fare at reasonable prices.

As an added bonus, you can check out the town’s culture and arts scene. A gallery that is dedicated to local artists, the Corazon Gallery, features striking photographs, beautiful ceramics, and art glass. The gallery provides a place for patrons to meet the artists, fosters a positive community vibe, and provides a tasteful way to enjoy a night out. If you’re in Trinidad and looking for a place to retire, consider a gallery downtown.

When visiting Trinidad, be sure to check out the town’s historic sites. The city’s historical sites include the Temple Aaron of Trinidad, the oldest synagogue in the Mountain West. The synagogue was founded by the local Jewish community in 1883 and is one of only a handful of synagogues still in use. Over the years, the temple has undergone numerous changes. In 2000, it became a museum for the town’s Jewish history.

As part of the gold rush, Trinidad was a major trading hub for the region. Traders from New Mexico brought freight caravans through the town to supply the fledgling Denver. During this time, a man named Felipe Baca passed through the Purgatoire Valley to sell flour. He was impressed by the valley’s potential for farming. By the time he had finished his journey to New Mexico, he had already become a successful farmer.
