15 Hiking Trails in Delta Junction

March 11, 2022 | More: Delta Junction| Hiking Trails

The city of Delta Junction, Alaska, is a small community located in the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area. It has a population of 931 as of the 2018 estimate. The population is about three times as large as it was in the 2010 census. The town is located near the confluence of the Tanana River and the lower part of the big, tanana-filled, or “Big” Delta. In 2010, Delta was home to about nine hundred people.

In the 1920s, the city was referred to as Buffalo Center because of the American bison that were introduced to the area from Montana. Construction of the Alaska Highway began in 1942, and the military base at Fort Greely was completed five miles away. In 1946, a dairy farm was established here, and in 1953, homesteaders brought in beef cattle. The town was incorporated as a second-class city in the 1960s, and in the 1970s, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline brought dramatic economic growth to the region.

The town is located along the Richardson Highway and is the official western terminus of the Alaska Highway. It is the largest agricultural center in the state, and is a bustling rest stop for road-weary travelers. Local attractions include fishing and the Delta Bison Range, where you can see a 500-strong bison herd. Though the bison are elusive, they generally avoid humans and other animals. The town is known for its thriving commercial fishing industry.

One of the city’s main attractions is its historic Sullivan Roadhouse. Built in 1905, the Sullivan Roadhouse served travelers on the Fairbanks-Valdez Trail from 1895 to the present day. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and was moved from its original site in Fort Greely to its present location. Today, it serves as a museum where historical photographs and artifacts are displayed. There are several exhibits dedicated to travel in the early 1900s in Alaska.

Another way to experience the natural beauty of the region is to walk the trails. You can choose between easy trails and more difficult ones. There are many hikes and scenic drives to enjoy. Whether you’re a novice or an experienced hiker, the town is sure to satisfy your outdoor recreation needs. If you’re looking for a scenic trail, Delta is an excellent choice for your next trip. With the city’s scenic views and wide range of recreational activities, it’s a perfect place to visit for the whole family.

In addition to the beautiful scenery of the valley, Delta is also home to many hiking trails. The park is a popular place for people to go walking and biking. The two-mile trails are accessible for wheelchairs and are popular with walkers. There is no shortage of walking opportunities in Delta. The area is rich in natural beauty. For outdoor enthusiasts, a walk through the beautiful wilderness is a rewarding way to experience the town. If you love exploring, you’ll be happy to discover a new trail.
