Located in San Diego County’s north county, Escondido is a quaint town with a rich history and great natural beauty. This city is situated just 30 miles northeast of downtown San Diego and is only 15 miles from the beach and 40 miles from the Mexican border. The area is steep and rocky, and is made up of several valleys. The city was incorporated in 1888, making it one of the oldest in San Diego County.

There are several hiking and mountain biking trails in Escondido. Daley Ranch is a 3,000-acre park that has 20 miles of trails. Some of these trails are easy, and others are a little more challenging. There are two small ponds and a log cabin that were used as hunting stands at the beginning of the 19th century. You can also ride horses, mountain bike, and hike through this beautiful area.

A visit to Escondido’s natural beauty will be rewarded with a trip to the local astronomy observatory. There are three large research telescopes that are open to the public for viewing the stars. The city’s north side of Lake Hodges offers many hiking opportunities. The city’s trails are a part of the Coast to Crest Trail, which stretches from Del Mar to Julian.
