The Flathead Lake Biological Station (FLBS) is the oldest biological station in the US. Founded by Dr. Morton Elrod, the FLBS was one of the first Biology Professors at the University of Montana. He was also instrumental in the establishment of Glacier National Park and the National Bison Range. The FLBS was originally located in Bigfork, but in 1908 was relocated to Yellow Bay. It is also the cleanest lake in the world, making it ideal for fishing.

Located in the northwest of Montana, Flathead Lake is one of the largest natural lakes in the world. It is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River.
