The Fort is home to America’s Contingency Corps, or ACC, which is a strategic crisis response force. It is also known as the Home of the Airborne Force. There are many unknown factors surrounding the deaths of Specialist Enrique Roman-Martinez. His body was found in the sand near Fort Bragg in North Carolina, but his identity remains a mystery. Although it is unknown what the two men had in common, Fort Bragg is one of the common denominators between the two bodies.

The Fort was established in 1918 as Camp Bragg. It was originally intended to house six artillery brigades. Pope Field, named for First Lieutenant Harley H. Pope, was named after the airman who died near the camp. Gen. Braxton Bragg, a native North Carolinian, decided to name the camp after his former commander. However, the name has become synonymous with the military and is often used as a synonym for war.
