15 Hiking Trails in Fort Collins Colorado

March 21, 2022 | More: Fort Collins Colorado| Hiking Trails

The city of Fort Collins is a popular destination for vacationers. The Old Town historic district, which includes 1800s homes, a vintage trolley, and specialty shops and restaurants, is a popular place to visit. The Fort Collin Museum of Discovery has interactive exhibits, digital dome theaters, and a variety of interactive displays. Horsetooth Mountain Open Space is home to the famous Horsetooth Rock formation and Horsetooth Falls.

Several hiking trails are available in the area, from moderate to difficult. One of these is the Arthur’s Rock trail. The Arthur’s Rock trail is part of Lory State Park, a large park on the eastern edge of Fort Collins. You can begin your hike from the end of the main gravel road. The A-Hill and Overlook trails are nearby. The Overlook trail is the longest and offers spectacular views of the town.

The Foothills Access trail starts at Rotary Park. Head south and descend to the bottom of the hill. Once you reach the top, turn right to continue on the A-Hill trail. The Overlook trail connects the two trails. During the summer, the temperature is in the 60s, but in the winter, the temperature can drop to the low teens. You can go hiking on Fort Collins’ trails year-round, but be sure to check the weather forecast for dangerous weather conditions.

The Natural Area of Fort Collins is located off South Timberline. This nature preserve is a popular spot for hiking. There are multiple trails and wetlands, and the largest loop is about 2 miles. The trails are flat and easy for hikers of all levels. The natural area is also popular with roller bladers, bikes, and horses. However, if you want to do a more challenging hike, try the A-Hill trail.

There are a few hiking trails in Fort Collins. The Horsetooth Rock trail is a popular destination among locals, but it’s also popular with bikers. The trail is 6.5 miles round-trip and has a 2,964-foot elevation gain. Once you’ve reached the top of Grey Rock, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of Rocky Mountain National Park. Once you’ve explored the trail, don’t forget to enjoy the city’s Old Town Square with a great dinner and live music.

The town isn’t a ski town, but it’s close to the mountains and offers a great place to go hiking. While there are no ski resorts in Fort Collins, the town’s winter activities can be enjoyed in the quiet solitude of a nature preserve. There are also trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The closest ski area is Eldora Mountain Resort, which is about an hour and fifty minute drive away.
