Gig Harbor is a charming little town that’s a great location for a vacation. You’ll be close to Seattle and Tacoma, but it’s far enough away that you’ll be able to experience the laid-back lifestyle without sacrificing your daily commute. While you’re there, be sure to visit the downtown area, which is absolutely beautiful. Gig Harbor has a thriving business community, so you’ll be sure to meet some fun people while you’re there!

The city of Gig Harbor boasts several world-class golf courses. Among the most prestigious courses are Canterwood Golf and Country Club, an 18-hole championship course, and Chambers Bay, an award-winning course, which hosted the 2015 U.S. Open. Gig Harbor Washington’s history is replete with fascinating stories. Before the city had its first school, children attended a private school associated with the Joseph Goodman family. Anna Goodman, the first teacher of this school, had ten students named Jerisich. Children sat on cedar plank benches, while a mud-and-stick fireplace provided heat and warmth. The city’s first school opened in 1885, and it’s still a popular spot for children.

Gig Harbor is centrally located within the Puget Sound region. It’s only forty miles from Seattle, making it a convenient day trip. However, it is recommended to book a hotel here if you want to stay a couple of days. There’s plenty to do in Gig Harbor, so consider a long weekend trip to enjoy the city. Before you make your trip, be aware that some businesses may be closed due to global health and safety issues.

Gig Harbor’s history reflects its long relationship with the sea. Native Americans first settled on the peninsula in 1792, and by 1833, there were a number of ships in the harbor. During the 1800s, Indians began trading at a fortified trading post called Fort Nisqually, which was about fifteen miles from the Twa-Wal-Kut settlement. The town still retains a significant part of its historic past, and the Makovich house is still used today as a guest house.
