Goshen, New York, is a village in Orange County, New York. It is part of the larger Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metro area. It is the county seat. The population of the village was 5,454 at the 2010 census. It is an unincorporated community and is located within the greater Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-middletown area. The county seat is Goshen.
The town of Goshen is a small rural community, about 44 square miles, located about 60 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan. The county seat is the 1841 courthouse, and the local First Presbyterian Church is on the eastern boundary. There are many state parks and hiking trails in the area, and the town has a rich history of trotting horses. The city is also home to several wineries, apple orchards, and a farmer’s market.
The northwestern portion of Goshen is a residential area, with village schools close to one another. The Orange County Government Center was constructed by Paul Rudolph, and was once used by Salesians of Don Bosco. Noah Webster taught in Goshen, and there is a street named after him, Noah Webster Avenue. A horse race took place here in the 1780s, and is still held on Main Street during the summer.
The town is home to many museums and historical sites. The Goshen Pass is an excellent hiking destination, with a variety of attractions and beautiful scenery. The historic district is also home to a county building, which is built in the 17th century. The Orange County Courthouse is the largest structure in the county, and has been the county seat since 1841. A few other notable neighborhoods are Sawyer’s Peak Estates, Good Time Park, and Sawyer’s Peak.
