It is part of the Opelousas-Eunice Micropolitan Statistical Area. Many residents work in the local farming industry. Here’s a closer look at this town.

One category F3 tornado, which occurred 3.6 miles from the center of the town, killed four people and damaged ten homes, and caused damage estimated at $50k to $500k. In addition to this, the town’s most recent tornado, which occurred on 10/15/1957, killed 29 people and damaged more than $50,000 in property, was a category F3 tornado with a size of 4.0 miles from the center of Grand Coteau.
