15 Hiking Trails in Miles City Montana

May 19, 2022 | More: Hiking Trails| Miles City Montana

In 1874, the area surrounding Miles City was the epicenter of cattle drives. Cowboys from the region brought their herds to railheads in the area, where they were loaded into trains and shipped around the country. A war broke out in 1877 between Bannock Indians and area settlers. However, the fighting was short-lived, and in 1878, the Bannock chief Paris II and his brother Camille were captured and hanged in Miles City.

In 1977, the Montana Museum of Art was established and quickly became an important place for culture and education. Today, it showcases the creative spirit of local residents and showcases their art through permanent and rotating exhibits. The Museum features art installations, local artists’ work, historic photography, and a ‘Home to Montana’ exhibition. If you have the artistic flair, you can take part in workshops and classes. These workshops will help you explore the history of the area and make lasting impressions.

A visit to the range riders museum is a wonderful way to learn about the Native American heritage of the region. The museum also includes artifacts from the era of the Great Plains pioneers, as well as from soldiers who fought for freedom. While in Miles City, you can visit the Waterworks Art Museum, which features a permanent collection of contemporary art and hosts regular exhibits. You can also visit the Tongue River Winery, the only winery in Montana. It has been a success for many years and continues to do so.

Besides the downtown area, there are several other activities that you can do in Miles City. You can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and tubing, and explore the surrounding wilderness. You will come home with wonderful memories of your trip to Miles City. Just be sure to pack your hiking shoes, sunscreen, and your camera. It’s a great place to visit if you’re a nature lover. If you’re looking for a place to spend your summer days, Miles City is definitely worth considering.

The town’s hot springs are one of its most popular attractions. The Lolo Hot Springs Lodge is an oasis for visitors. Native Americans have been enjoying the waters for hundreds of years, and it is the setting for the scene in the movie “A River Runs Through It.” However, the actor actually died in Chicago! It’s a pity, because the movie was shot in this area. This location has a rich history.
