In 1840, the city was a thriving center for manufacturing and was the largest city west of the Allegheny Mountains. For sports fans, Pittsburgh is home to numerous championship teams. The city was the first to host a high school all-star game in 1965. The Civic Arena has been the site of the Eastern Eight Conference Championship Tournament from 1978 until 1982.
