Located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in Kit Carson County, Burlington is home rule municipality. It is the county seat and most populous community in Kit Carson County. As of the 2020 Census, its population was 3,172. It is located about 18 miles east of Colorado Springs. The area surrounding the town is beautiful and includes many recreational opportunities. Several parks, lakes, and trails can be found in the area. The area is popular for its skiing and snowboarding.

Visitors can spend a day enjoying the local parks and attractions, which include Parmer Park, which is a family-friendly destination with a grand playground and summertime splash pad. There are several restaurants and hair salons in the town, as well, so you can have a relaxing lunch in the park. The Kit Carson County Carousel is also a popular destination for locals. The historic and beautifully restored carousel is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The Kit Carson County Carousel, which is one of 150 wooden carousels in the United States, is a popular attraction in Burlington. A local favorite, it is a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends and family. A trip to this museum is a great way to see the carousel in action. The amphitheater offers live entertainment, and there is also a museum where you can learn about its history and how it works.

In addition to a Colorado Welcome Center, Burlington has several museums and historical sites to explore. The Old Town Museum is more than just a museum, featuring the town’s agricultural and Western history. There are exhibits and information throughout the old buildings.
