15 Reasons to Travel to Dillon and the Big Hole Montana

March 14, 2022 | More: Dillon and the Big Hole Montana| Why Travel to

There are many places to go fishing in Dillon and the Big Hole Valley, and there are even events that celebrate the winter season. One of the most popular events is the Big Hole Valley Winterfest, which occurs in late February. In addition to fishing, the Big Horn Valley is home to a unique sport known as skijoring, where a horse pulls a skier. A number of books are available on the area, and the events are all well worth attending.

The Big Hole River has a few major stretches, including a narrow section that is reminiscent of a canyon. The riverbanks change from forest to rock as the Big Hole River reaches Divide FAS. On the north side of the river, an abandoned railroad bed follows the river. This gives wading anglers plenty of access, though you’ll have to scramble down steep slopes. On the south side of the river, Montana Highway 43 closely follows it and provides access to both ends of the river.

There are many things to do in Dillon and the Big Hole Valley. If you like hiking, the area’s trail network offers 156 miles of trails through the wilderness. It’s the best place to explore the wilderness on a bike, but if you have a car, the road can be rough! A loop of this scenic route starts in Dillon and goes through the towns of Wisdom and Wise River and ends in Dillon. There are plenty of outdoor activities in Dillon, too.

Bicycling enthusiasts will find a number of places to ride their bikes, including the Beaverhead Trails Coalition. With the help of a volunteer group called Bike Walk Southwest Montana, this organization has built many bike trails and has turned the town into a destination for cyclists. Other recreation areas include campgrounds, pavilions, wash houses, showers, and even a bike shop. Despite its rural location, Dillon is a great place for cyclists to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

The valley is a beautiful place to visit, and the Big Hole River is a popular river. The area was named Camp Fortune by Lewis and Clark in 1805, and the town is a thriving tourist destination. The river runs through Dillon valley and is one of the most scenic drives in the state. While the city is small, it was once the state’s capital, and it has been a major attraction ever since.

The town is located a few miles away from the Big Hole Valley and is a great destination for fly fishing. The river offers excellent opportunities for beginners as well as experienced anglers. Several guides and local fishermen prefer the river to Dillon for the best fishing. The river is a freestone river with a variety of fish. Salmonfly hatches occur during the early summer, and other insects are abundant throughout the summer.
