15 Reasons to Travel to Florence Oregon

March 24, 2022 | More: Florence Oregon| Why Travel to

A trip to Florence, Oregon will make for a unique experience. Located on the mouth of the Siuslaw River, this small city is home to the Steller sea lions. Heceta Head Lighthouse, a restored 19th-century lighthouse, and the Historic Old Town district offer visitors a chance to explore the town’s history and culture. The scenic Siuslaw River is just across the river, and the nearby Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is also a great day trip.

When visiting Florence, Oregon, be sure to visit the Florence Visitors Center, a local tourist information hub. Located right next to the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum, this office is a must-see. Its hours of operation are 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. The Visitors Center is closed on Sundays. The center is staffed by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Guests will appreciate the comfortable accommodations, cozy atmosphere, and impeccably clean rooms and suites at the Best Western Pier Point Inn.

A visit to the state park is also a must. The lighthouse is still in operation and is accessible by hiking. It is important to note that COVID-19 restrictions prohibit swimming and snorkeling inside the lighthouse. But if you have a license, you can still hike there. And don’t forget to check out the whale watching opportunities along the Oregon coastline. More than 18,000 whales pass through Florence on their way from the Arctic to their winter breeding grounds in Mexico.

The Florence Coast Military Museum is a 501c3 nonprofit that opened its doors on July 4th. The museum honors all eras and disciplines of military service in the area, as well as the town’s many Veterans. With 3,000 square feet of display space, this museum offers life-size dioramas of war scenes from World War I to Vietnam. You can also take a trip to Mari’s Kitchen for an excellent breakfast.

You can enjoy the Oregon coast from Florence. The city is home to several wineries, which can be enjoyed at many local restaurants and bars. You can also visit the Historic Old Town District. The town’s waterfront is perfect for a stroll or a picnic. The South Willamette Valley is home to several wineries. You can sample the wines at some of the best places in the region, including a variety of local craft brews.

Besides the Siuslaw River, Florence is also home to a dozen pristine lakes and dunes. If you’re looking for some adventure, take a drive north from Florence to the town’s coastal area. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the ocean and nearby dunes. If you’re looking for an incredible view of the city’s coastline, check out the Sea Lion Caves. These are the largest coastal caves in North America and are home to over 200 Steller sea lions.
