Fort Morgan, Alabama, or Fort Bowyer, is an unincorporated community in Baldwin County, Alabama. It is located west of Gulf Shores on Mobile Point, which extends from Gulf Shores to the west and toward historic Fort Morgan. You can find a number of unique attractions in this charming seaside town, but its charms are also its historical significance. For those looking to unwind on a beach with soft white sand, the Fort Morgan beach is the perfect place. Its less crowded than Gulf Shores’ beaches, giving you a lot more space and quiet. While it may not have all the amenities of Gulf Shores, it does offer plenty of relaxation. There are a variety of Fort Morgan Alabama rentals, so you can find one that’s right for you and your family.

Visitors to Fort Morgan can enjoy fishing excursions and wildlife viewing. The Mobile Bay Ferry provides convenient transportation between Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines, which is on Dauphin Island. The ferry leaves daily and offers transportation for pedestrians and vehicles. A pedestrian ticket costs $6 and children under six are free, while vehicle tickets can range from $11 to $36. A must-visit location, Fort Morgan is situated on Mobile Point in Baldwin County. Built between 1819 and 1833, this historic site served as Alabama’s largest permanent military post. It also served as a coast defense post during World War I and World War II. During WWII, it was occupied by the U.S. Navy and 50th Coast Artillery Regiment. After the war, it was turned over to the state of Alabama. Today, Fort Morgan is a tranquil place to visit.

While visiting the Fort Morgan Historical Site, don’t forget to check out the museum. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the management provides an informative map and detailed descriptions of interesting areas. Self-guided tours of the fort are also available. The Fort Morgan Museum highlights the history of American military in Mobile Point between 1814 and 1945. The museum has a large collection of personal items of soldiers who served at the fort. There’s also a Covid-19 space on the Fort’s grounds.

The museum opened in 1988 and contains numerous artifacts related to the town’s history. There’s a Confederate iron pot on display, as well as an YMCA publication. Afterwards, the museum has free admission. The museum is also home to the Fort Morgan Historical Commission, which plans to add another room to the battery. So, the Fort Morgan Historical Commission is in the process of adding an additional room to the museum, but it won’t be until the museum is completed.

Fort Morgan is the largest permanent military installation in Alabama. During its construction, over 3000 Indians were housed in the fort. The site later hosted William T. Sherman’s troops in 1841 and 1842. When the Civil War came to an end, Fort Morgan was a prime spot for a Civil War battle. Its strategic location and historical significance made Fort Morgan a must-see for the Civil War. However, today, the fort is not the same.
