15 Reasons to Travel to Golden Colorado

May 9, 2022 | More: Golden Colorado| Why Travel to

There are plenty of reasons to visit Golden Colorado, from its storied history as the state’s first capital to the city’s great food. While you’re in the area, check out the Miners Saloon for great drinks and live music. For more fun, stop into the Golden Moon Speakeasy, which serves tons of cocktails and has a fun speakeasy vibe. In this small city, you can explore the past while sipping a cold beer on a cozy patio.

The town of Golden, Colorado, is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just twenty-five minutes from Denver. The town’s mountainous setting is perfect for exploring the surrounding area. Many travelers to the state’s ski resorts make a stop in Golden for acclimatization. Other visitors plan a trip to Golden to experience the small-town charm and local culture. The town hosts parades and holiday markets, so you can get a taste of the Old West while enjoying the outdoors.

If you’re a geologist, you’ll be fascinated by the gold and silver specimens on display at the museum. You’ll also be fascinated by the many mining-artifacts and fossils on display. You can also catch a glimpse of a T-Rex tooth, collected during the Apollo 17 mission. The museum is an excellent place to get some great photos and learn about the history of Golden. While visiting Golden, don’t forget to check out the Buffalo Bills’ grave.

A visit to the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave is another must-do when visiting Golden. Located in Golden, Colorado, the museum is full of exhibits about the great Westerner, William F. Cody. As of 2021, it will celebrate its 100th anniversary. While the museum isn’t huge, it’s well worth spending an hour or two here. The museum is not overly expensive and is free to visit, but the views of the surrounding mountains are incredible. If you’re looking for a more challenging hike in Golden, take a look at Lookout Mountain. It’s one of the hardest hikes in the area, but it’s certainly worth the effort.

The streets of Golden are generally north-south and east-west, named for the American Indian tribes, trees, and pioneers who settled the area. In addition to the city’s traditional streets, Golden has outlying subdivisions with curvilinear street systems and varied connections to the rest of the city. If you’re looking to visit the city, you can ride the light rail, ride the bus, or take a scenic drive.

Besides mountaineering, Golden also offers several museums and art galleries. The American Alpine Club Museum and the Colorado Mountain Club have branches here, making them an excellent place to get inspired. If you’re an art lover, you can browse through the many paintings and works of art in the local museums. The Foothills Art Center is another art powerhouse. And don’t forget to check out Buffalo Bill’s grave! There’s even a cemetery dedicated to the showman on Lookout Mountain.
