The construction of a new road was halted while archeologists conducted four days of rescue excavations. The archeologists uncovered artifacts such as Chinese bowls, hand-made bottles, opium paraphernalia, and coins.
The Rogue River Valley Railway linked Jacksonville with Medford, Oregon. The Southern Oregon Traction Co. also served the two cities. The book contains many historical details about the railroad, as well as photographs. The images are included in documentation for a nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, which is a program of the National Park Service.
