The town of Livingston is situated on the banks of the Yellowstone River, where Lewis and Clark stopped for rest on July 15, 1806. It was 76 years after the expedition left for the Pacific Ocean. It was first named Clark City, after the contractor, Herman Clark. Livingston was a stockholder of the Northern Pacific Railroad and a director. Among the city’s first residents, she is a prominent author and an acclaimed grizzly bear expert.
