15 Reasons to Travel to Mad River Valley Vermont

May 13, 2022 | More: Mad River Valley Vermont| Why Travel to

If you’re looking for a fall foliage haven, look no further than Vermont’s Mad River Valley. This charming mountain community is perfect for hiking, skiing, and localvore eating. A winter trip will provide you with the opportunity to sample local fare and indulge in an alpine meal at Sugarbush or Mad River Glen. If you prefer a more casual dining experience, head to one of the many local restaurants.

This scenic valley has changed very little since the Revolutionary War was won. You’ll find a mix of farmland, terraced meadows, upland forests, classic ski resorts, and nineteenth-century villages. Here are five towns to see and photograph on your next trip to Vermont. While you’re here, you’ll be sure to see locals enjoying their favorite recreational pursuits. Whether you’re an experienced mountain biker or a complete novice, there’s a perfect trail for everyone in the Mad River Valley.

The renowned Mad River Distillers’ Taste Place is more of a retail shop than a restaurant, but you’ll find plenty of unique local products and tasty treats at the cheesemonger’s shop. You’ll also find Vermont specialty foods and cheeses at the Lawson’s brewing company’s four-season beer garden. You can even book a tour of the brewery. And don’t forget to try the best Vermont cheese counter! You’ll want to stay for lunch, too!

The local attractions include Sugarbush, where you’ll find a small snowmaking pond. There’s a short trail to the pond, and a connector stream connecting the Mad River to the Sugarbush pond. The pond’s waterside setting is a popular swimming spot. The pond has large rocks for climbing. The road to get to the pond is just after Kingsbury Farm. There’s also a festival in August for artists and crafts enthusiasts.

Besides being home to a few renowned coffee roasters, the Mad River Valley region has much to offer visitors. In addition to great dining and lodging, Waitsfield boasts excellent year-round tourism. Nearby ski resorts include Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. The town’s thriving farmers market is also worth a visit. And of course, you can’t miss the Waitsfield Farmers’ Market! A visit to the town is essential if you are planning a trip to Vermont!

The Mad River Glen Cooperative is a shareholder-owned ski area that is committed to preserving the unique experience of its patrons. There are only 4 chairlifts and one handle tow, and no snowmaking facilities. However, despite the small number of lifts, you can skin and snowshoe in the beautiful Vermont wilderness. It’s a relaxing and challenging area that offers the best of both worlds. It is the perfect getaway from hectic urban life.
