15 Reasons to Travel to New Orleans

May 26, 2022 | More: New Orleans| Why Travel to

When visiting New Orleans, you’ll discover that the city’s accent has a diverse array of sounds. The accent in this city is a prideful expression of local culture, with different accents being characteristic of different parts of town. You’ll hear people say “Where y’at?” and mean “Where’s your tummy?” (typically Irish), while blacks and whites speak in distinctly different ways. There are even different pronunciations for the same words, such as “Baba,” or “Baba” (which means “baba” in French).

If you’re looking for an interesting place to visit while in New Orleans, then you’ll want to check out the Pharmacy Museum. Housed in the former apothecary of the first pharmacist in the U.S., this museum features collections of old medical equipment, apothecary jars, voodoo potions, and other esoteric items from the region. There are even names like “Love Potions” and “Leeches” hanging on the walls. Visiting this museum is a bit odd, but it’s a historical and cultural gem.

As an added bonus, visiting the city during the off-season will keep you from experiencing the hottest parts of the city. April and May are ideal months for visiting New Orleans, when the weather is mild but still warm. Summer months can be unbearably hot, so plan your visit accordingly. If you’re visiting during the month of August, you’ll want to plan your trip around Mardi Gras (the festival celebrating the arrival of the King of France) – although you’ll need to book your accommodations well ahead of time.

When visiting New Orleans, be sure to visit during Mardi Gras. The French Quarter is an excellent destination for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Its historic buildings have red-tiled roofs and arcades. Many of these buildings are now hotels and restaurants. You can also find a jazz club or a gallery. The atmosphere and ambiance during this time are simply a must-see for everyone. In the meantime, you’ll have a blast!

The Warehouse District, located between the French Quarter and Garden District, is another great place to spend your vacation dollars. You’ll find a plethora of quaint boutiques here, including Pied Nu, Box Paper Scissors, and Friend, among others. Although you’ll find lots of attractions along Magazine Street, you’ll find many more in Canal Place, where you’ll find major brands like Anthropologie. Lastly, if you’d like to take your shopping outdoors, head to French Market, 1235 N. Peters St. This vibrant flea market is a great place to enjoy a tasty lunch or dinner.

When in New Orleans, make sure to check out May Baily’s Place, an 1821 institution that has been around since before the French Revolution. The building was the first licensed brothel in the city. It still displays its business license. Some visitors claim the brothel is haunted, so be sure to take plenty of Pimms Cups while you’re here. And don’t forget about the French Quarter. There are many other interesting things to see and do while visiting New Orleans, but music is definitely a highlight.
