15 Reasons to Travel to Taos New Mexico

December 15, 2021 | More: Taos New Mexico| Why Travel to

Situated in northern New Mexico’s high desert, Taos is known for its historic adobe buildings and the Taos Pueblo, a multistory adobe complex that was home to Native Americans for centuries. Its adobe architecture is particularly recognizable in the city’s many galleries and museums, including the Harwood Museum of Art and the Taos Art Museum.

While Taos does not have many nightclubs, its vibrant and artistic history is still very visible. You can spend the evening watching live music at the Anaconda Bar at the El Monte Sagrado and enjoy a drink at the Sagebrush Inn. During the day, you can also take in some great mountain biking or a game of golf. Whether you prefer gambling or relaxing in the spa, you’ll find plenty to do in Taos.

For fine dining, Lambert’s of Taos is one of the best places in Taos. The menu is full of heart-stopping desserts and dishes like crab cakes and pepper-crusted lamb. If you’re looking for a relaxing meal, you’ll want to head to a cafe for lunch or dinner. The historic downtown is a great place to explore the town and sample local eats.

If you want to experience Taos’ culture in a more intimate way, visit Taos Pueblo. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the oldest continuously inhabited community in the United States. You’ll see what it was like to live there for generations. In addition to the Pueblo’s buildings, the 1850 San Geronimo chapel is worth a visit. This community is rich with cultural history and has much to offer visitors of all backgrounds.

The city has a rich art history. The city’s art scene dates back to the late 19th century. The town’s name translates as “inexpensive, beautiful, and charming” and was named after the old Spanish word for “happiness.” While most of the population is happy and content in Taos, some may disagree with the term. But if you want to explore the area’s rich history, Taos is a great destination for tourists.

The town’s unique character has long been reflected in its artistic community. The Taos Society of Artists was founded in 1917, and was a driving force behind the development of the town’s tourist industry. The city’s reputation for artistic creativity was boosted by the arrival of Mabel Dodge Luhan in 1917. She brought many creative luminaries to the town, including Ansel Adams and Thornton Wilder.

The town has an excellent art scene. The Hlaukwima (south house) is the oldest of the two houses. Both of these houses are five stories, with walls several feet thick and made of earth mixed with water. The homes were built in the early 19th century, and the museum was established in 1950. Its first exhibit featured artworks by the local artist Millicent Rogers. Since then, the art community has grown to include many international artists.
