15 Reasons Why you should Stay in Chesapeake City

March 9, 2022 | More: Why Travel to

A large town in Cecil County, Maryland, Chesapeake City is a popular tourist destination. In 2010, the town had a population of 673. At the 2010 census, the population was up to 673. Located on the Eastern Shore, it is located near the Virginia line. There are many local businesses that have made the area one of the fastest-growing. In addition, there are several attractions and things to do for visitors.

While the majority of the city is located east of the C & D Canal, the bridge dominates the landscape and is easily visible from most points of the city. The historic downtown is a walking paradise, with beautiful architecture and many historic buildings. Hiking to the C&D Canal Museum and other attractions is also a pleasant hike. Once a gritty boom town, Chesapeake has undergone a transformation into a charming and interesting town that is perfect for a day trip.

Whether you’re interested in kayaking, scuba diving, or paddleboarding, Chesapeake City is an ideal weekend getaway. The nearby water is perfect for paddle-sport enthusiasts, and there are several launch sites that will make it easier to get on the water. Just remember to keep your paddle-boards in a lock, as the canal is not navigable by non-powered vehicles. It’s easy to explore the waterfront on foot, so make sure to bring your board or paddle.

Once you’ve found a shady spot, it’s time to head up the hill to the C & D Canal Museum. It’s located on Bethel Road, a mile or so outside of the center of town, but you can walk there easily and park inside the museum. The C & D Canal Museum tells the story of the canal’s construction, with giant steam engines, massive waterwheels, and replicas of the canal locks.

The town is situated on a working canal. It is the only town in Maryland to be located on a working commercial canal. Most of the 19th century architecture has been preserved, and the area around it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to the Canal Museum, it’s worth visiting Windfields Farm and the Bayard House, two cottages adjacent to the canal are popular vacation destinations.

While you’re visiting Chesapeake City, don’t forget to taste the town’s craft beer. The town’s first brewery is Bayheads Brewing Company, which was founded by three local gentlemen who love craft beer. The brewery serves both food and beer. Those who visit the city on a weekend can enjoy the town’s historical museum and quaint shops. The local restaurants are family-friendly, and the Chesapeake Municipal Center is a great place to visit.
