March 15, 2022 | More: Tourist Attractions

If you’re traveling to the Research Triangle Area, make a stop in Durham. This city is home to a wide array of scholarly and technology institutions, as well as the neo-Gothic Duke Chapel. For a more hands-on experience, visit the Nasher Museum of Art, which features contemporary art. At the Museum of Life + Science, you can learn about a range of topics while experiencing wildlife habitats and a butterfly house.

To keep busy, visit the Streets at Southpoint, Durham’s entertainment district. This neighborhood is home to many popular restaurants and a movie theater. You can visit the North Carolina State Museum and explore the different exhibits and galleries. You can also indulge in a shopping spree or catch a movie at a local cinema. You’ll be able to find something to do in Durham no matter what you’re looking for.

For something a little less active, check out Eno River State Park, located just outside of the city center. It offers plenty of recreational activities, from camping to hiking and boating. You can also spend a day at the park, or visit the nearby Duke University for a day of sightseeing. In addition to the Eno River, there are several hiking trails that you can follow. If you’re a sports fan, you can even take a spin on a bicycle in Durham’s many bike trails.

Durham’s revitalized downtown honors the city’s rich tobacco-making history. Modern lofts, theaters, and trendy restaurants occupy old brick factories. You can also visit the nearby Willowhaven Golf Course and Hillandale Golf. If you’re a fan of shopping, you can find plenty of options at The Streets at Southpoint. This mall features indoor and outdoor shopping and dining. You can even catch a movie at the local theatre.

The area is also home to some of the region’s best museums. At the Nasher Museum of Art, you can view more than 3,000 works of art. In addition to the Nasher Museum of Arts and Culture, you can also attend a Durham Music Festival or enjoy a Third Friday Art Walk. Those looking for a more cultural experience can visit the town’s many festivals and theaters. For a day trip, the city has many options to explore.

The historic districts of Durham offer many interesting attractions. The Historic American Tobacco District is a great example of this. In the 18th century, this area was home to more than 900 slaves. The Bennehan House is a unique historical structure that is accessible for everyone. The tour will allow you to tour the interiors of the buildings, and see how they were used over the years. When visiting the Durham area, you may also want to explore the countless parks available.
