15 Tourist Attractions in Galveston Texas

April 25, 2022 | More: Galveston Texas| Tourist Attractions

Located on the coast of Galveston Texas, the ELISSA is one of the oldest vessels still in service in the United States. Launched in 1877 in Aberdeen, Scotland, the tall ship has sailed under numerous flags and is one of Galveston’s top attractions. Touring the ship’s interior, you can experience what it was like to be a crew member. The museum also offers exhibits about the history of the port and the 133,000 immigrants who have called Galveston home.

For families, the Children’s Museum is one of the top attractions. There are many hands-on exhibits for children aged two to 10. Visitors can also view a replica of the USS Seawolf, a submarine that sank during World War II. Visiting this museum will help them learn about the history of the area, as well as the men who made the sacrifice. This submarine never surfaced, but a museum is still housed in its watery wake.

The Bryan Museum is another must-see in Galveston. The Bryan Museum is also a great place to see a special exhibit. Despite the city’s tropical climate, it can be hot in June. If you want to enjoy a more lively nightlife, Galveston is the perfect destination. Many locals flock to Galveston for bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations, and ladies’ nights out. There are plenty of other activities to keep the ladies happy and entertained during your visit.

If you want to watch a show while sipping a drink, head to the Strand. There are several bars on Market Street that offer live music. Townes Van Zandt recorded an album called Live at the Old Quarter, and the city pays homage to him with a tribute show. At 2701 Market St., you can find a bar called Daiquiri Time Out, which resembles a building from Grand Theft Auto Vice City.

East Beach is a hotspot for Galveston residents and tourists alike. This expansive location is home to the city’s largest park, RA Apffel Beach Park. It is also home to the city’s largest festival, the Galveston ArtWalk, and a variety of local events. While exploring downtown, don’t forget to visit the RA Apffel Beach Park, which is a designated nature conservation area.

The city’s governing body is the city council, which consists of six elected positions. The mayor is elected to a two-year term. The council appoints the city manager, the city secretary, the auditor, and city attorney, and determines the city’s Tax Collector. The city manager promotes development, presents the city’s budget, and implements council policies. It is important to understand what the city’s government is like, as there are numerous organizations and government offices in Galveston.

Despite its small size, Galveston has some amazing attractions. The beach is a hotspot for families, with playgrounds and volleyball courts, umbrella rentals, and lifeguards on duty to ensure safety. Besides the beach, the seaside city offers other attractions as well. For a memorable day out, try some of the many historical attractions located downtown. Stop by LaKing’s Confectionery, a 1920’s-style soda fountain.
