15 Tourist Attractions in Maui

July 28, 2022 | More: Tourist Attractions

If you’re looking for a unique vacation experience, you can’t go wrong with Maui. Its diverse landscape is a draw for travelers, and you can find plenty of activities to satisfy nearly every interest. Here are a few recommendations for dining, shopping, and nightlife in Maui. No matter what your tastes, you’re sure to find a delicious meal on Maui. Just make sure to bring your camera, because the island’s beautiful sunsets are sure to leave you with a lifetime memory.

Makena Beach: This beach is one of the island’s most beautiful attractions. Kayakers can paddle out to Turtle Town or look for sea turtles. You can also visit the local wineries, distilleries, and lavender farms. You can also take a guided tour of the Kula Botanical Gardens. There, you’ll find tropical plants and lush flora. You’ll be able to enjoy a scenic picnic while learning about the local culture and history of Maui.

Haleakala National Park: One of the most scenic routes in Hawaii, Haleakala is home to the highest peak on the island. At 10,023 feet, this peak holds the world record for climbing to its highest elevation in the shortest distance. It is one of the most popular sights in Maui, with five distinct climate zones and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. You can even view black sand beaches, which are very rare in Hawaii.

Paia: Paia is a relatively new hub on Maui. The former hippie hangout has evolved into a beach bum paradise over the past decade. The lack of big resorts in Paia helps keep the nighttime crowds to a minimum. Paia Fish Market is arguably the most delicious seafood restaurant on Maui, with supersize portions. It has locations in Lahaina and Kihei. Visiting Paia’s famous market for lunch is a must while in the island.

Waianapanapa State Park: Located on East Maui, Wai’anapanapa State Park features 122 acres of lava-sculpted cliffs, sea stacks, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. A stop at Waianapanapa State Park will give you a taste of the island’s culture, history, and wildlife. It’s also worth a day trip, especially if you’re traveling alone. It’s best to reserve a campsite ahead of time.

Wailea: While the West side has its fair share of beautiful beaches, the southwest part of Maui is where you can find a number of great snorkeling, surfing, and paddleboarding options. If you’re looking for a more laid-back vibe, you can always head over to the north shore and enjoy a day on the beach. The west Maui mountains are just across the way, and provide a picturesque backdrop to the island.

Road to Hana: A scenic 65-mile road, the Road to Hana offers a scenic drive along the coast. You’ll pass through valleys with waterfalls and find black, red, and white sand beaches. There are plenty of hiking trails, tropical plants, and gorgeous views from here. You’ll also have the chance to spot exotic wild birds. If you have a car, you can drive to Hana and spend the night.
