15 Tourist Attractions in Midland Texas

May 19, 2022 | More: Midland Texas| Tourist Attractions

When it comes to the oil industry, Midland, Texas, is a city to visit. As part of the Permian Basin, Midland is a hub for the oil and gas industry. The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum features interactive exhibits and a recreated oil town from the 1930s. If you are visiting Midland, Texas, you may also want to visit the George W. Bush Childhood Home, which dates back to 1939 but has been restored to its 1950s appearance.

The city of Midland, Texas, is located in the desert-like chaparral of West Texas. Although it receives only 12 to 14 inches of rain per year, irrigated farming is visible to the north and east of the city. These farms depend on water from the Ogallala Aquifer, which extends hundreds of miles into the Great Plains and reaches its southern extent just a few miles south of Midland. Although Midland still heavily relies on wells to supply municipal water, a 150-mile pipeline from Lake Ivey in Central Texas has helped to provide pure water to the city.

The city is also home to several museums. The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum houses some of the world’s largest collection of antique oil drilling equipment. Another place of interest is the Midland Community Theater, which is considered one of the top ten amateur theaters in the country. It is located at 2000 W. Wadley Ave, Midland Texas 79705. The city also has the first Alamo bell and the Haley Library and History Center, which houses a presidential museum.

If you love arts and music, there are plenty of concerts and exhibitions in the area. The area’s unique landscape means there’s room for everyone to get active and exercise. You can also visit one of the many outdoor preserves in the area. There are countless community pools and water parks. If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, Midland is a great place to live. There’s also a large selection of museums and galleries that will delight you.

If you have kids, you should check out the Sibley Nature Center, which is located in Hogan Park. It offers a riparian forest campus and an 86-acre urban playa lake. The park also features wildlife taxidermy exhibits and a variety of educational programs. There are many activities available for the whole family, including storytime and toddler times. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. If you’re looking for a place for your family to spend a relaxing afternoon, Midland offers a number of great outdoor attractions.

In 1900, the city was largely white. However, the city’s demography was rapidly changing. According to the 2000 census, Midland has a population of 8 percent African Americans, 29 percent Hispanics, and 75.5 percent white residents. The Hispanic population is growing fast, and is already present in local civic elections. But there’s still no reason to worry. Despite these changes, Midland remains a great place to live.
